"Explore the monumental structures and breathtaking landscape at Chaco, a thriving regional center for the ancestral Pueblo people from 850 to 1250 CE (Common Era), through guided tours, hiking & biking trails, evening campfire talks, night sky programs, and more. Chaco Canyon is a sacred and deeply personal place for many Indigenous peoples throughout the Southwest. Please visit with respect."
Once again, the LOE club is sponsoring a night-sky event at Chaco Canyon. This year the event will occur during a full moon on Saturday, April 12th at 8:22pm. Due to the potentially treacherous nature of the roads to the campground, the event may have to be cancelled.
We will be at the Gallo Campground Groupsite #1. There is water and a restroom available but no showers. Camping is free for LOE members and $5 / tent for non-members payable on registration.
Note that there is a $20/motorcycle entrance fee. The general link to Chaco below includes information on paying the entrance fee on-line. The entrance pass is good for 7 days. Entrance is free with the America the Beautiful Pass.
In addition, member Jake G is bringing his truck and is offering to bring main course (hot dogs) for dinner and firewood. A suggested $5 cash contribution to Jake would be welcomed.
Anyone with a telescope or binoculars is welcome to bring them as well to enhance the night sky viewing!. I am planning on doing some light hiking as well so will pack hiking boots.
Please register for the event so we can keep in touch with emails about any event details and also so we can keep track of people for dinner.
I am tentatively planning on having a meetup point at the Home Depot in Bernalillo at 9:00am; KSU 9:15. I plan to stop for lunch at El Bruno's in Cuba around 11am. I will also top up the tank in Cuba. Most likely I will use the north road from Nageezi (the Sinclair station there does NOT have premium). Details will be mailed to all registrants closer to the date.
